It’s March 9th, and if you look at your calendar, someone probably labeled it “National Napping Day.” I had a different post planned for today but I just couldn’t stop thinking about a national day for napping. It’s almost as silly as a national Mario Day which we may discuss tomorrow.
Now back to this napping day thing. In sales, where the “NO”s are frequent and the competition is relentless, that label is a trap. While the average person is looking for a pillow and a darkened room today, we, the high-performers—the ones hitting our goals and scaling our residuals—know that momentum is a terrible thing to waste.
In sales, “rest” isn’t found in a 20-minute snooze. It’s found in the thrill of the win.
Why We’re Skipping the Nap Today
While the rest of the world hits the “snooze” button, here is why you should be hitting the pavement:
- The “Post-Lunch” Power Play: Most of your competitors are feeling that 2:00 PM slump. They’re dragging, their energy is low, or they’re actually participating in this “holiday.” This is your window. When the competition sleeps, you steal their market share.
- Merchants Don’t Nap: Small business owners—your bread and butter—are the hardest working people in the country. They don’t have time for a siesta. If you show up with high energy while their current processor is MIA, who do you think they’re going to trust with their revenue?
- The Law of Inertia: In Merchant Services, momentum is everything. Once you stop to “recharge” for an hour, it takes three hours to get your head back in the game. Stay in the zone. Keep the headset on. Keep the door-knocks rhythmic.
How to Fuel the Hustle (Without the Pillow)
If you’re feeling that mid-day dip, don’t reach for a blanket. Reach for a closing tool:
| Instead of… | Do This… |
| Closing your eyes | Open a new lead list. Fresh data is better than a dream. |
| Finding a couch | Walk a new strip mall. The fresh air and the “pavement pound” will wake you up better than caffeine. |
| Silent time | Listen to a closing podcast. Sharpen the axe while you’re in transit. |
The Only “Rest” We Recognize
In this industry, the only time we truly rest is when the contract is signed, the terminal is shipped, and the merchant is saving money.
“The dream is free. The hustle is sold separately.”
National Napping Day is for the people who are okay with “average.” But you aren’t in Merchant Services to be average. You’re here to build a legacy of residuals and a reputation for being the most reliable partner a business owner has.
Stay awake. Stay hungry. Stay closing,
Happy Selling,
David
