Friday’s Top 10 Odd Facts as America Turns 250

If you’ve read my July 4th posts in years past, you know my usual routine. I’m usually the guy complaining about how July is the slowest month of the year for merchant services. I’m usually grumbling about how a three-day holiday completely disrupts our sales momentum right when we need to be closing deals.

But today is different. Today, I just feel proud.

Tomorrow, we celebrate exactly 250 years of being the United States of America. Given the amount of division we see in this country every day, it feels incredibly special that we can still all come together, pause the noise, and celebrate our country.

Friday’s Top 10: The Ali Siddiq “Father’s Day” Survival Guide

This Sunday is Father’s Day, and each year I always think about comedian Ali Siddiq’s hilarious bit on Father’s Day. Ali says Father’s Day is the most “un-choreographed” holiday in existence. While Mom gets a fully planned itinerary, Dad gets a generic card with a picture of a sailboat or a golf club on it (even if he doesn’t sail or golf), a plate of whatever food is left over, and exactly one hour and forty-five minutes of quiet time before someone walks in to ruin it.

It’s early here at my house. The sun is barely up, the coffee is brewing, and the neighborhood is completely quiet. I wanted to slip out to the keyboard and put a quick post together for you all before the chaos of the day officially kicks off.

We’ve got a three-day weekend right around the corner. Memorial Day is this coming Monday, which means barbecues, family time, and a well-deserved break and the official opening day to summer. For most people, a long weekend is pure celebration.

What a week it’s gonna be. Last Friday, we were dusting off our Justin Timberlake memes because “It’s Gonna be May.” Then Saturday hit us with the shocker that Spirit Airlines has finally “gave up the ghost,” leaving a gap in the budget travel market. We barely had time to process that before yesterday’s “May the 4th Be With You” celebrations had us dreaming of galaxies far, far away.
