Friday’s Top 10 Today is World Emoji Day

I was just looking at the calendar as I prepared for today’s top 10, and I realized today is actually something called World Emoji Day!

Honestly, we donโ€™t always have time to type out long paragraphs. Sometimes, a single little icon perfectly captures the thrill of a closed deal, the frustration of a gatekeeper, or the pure madness of a Friday afternoon push.

To celebrate, we are counting down the Top 10 Emojis that perfectly sum up the life of a merchant services sales rep. Grab your coffee, check your pipeline, and let’s count ’em down!

Friday’s Top 10 Emojis for Merchant Services Sales People

10. ๐Ÿงฑ The Gatekeeper

Every great sales story starts here. You walk into a business, pitch ready, only to find the literal human embodiment of a brick wall. Whether itโ€™s a fiercely protective office manager or an automated phone menu that leads to nowhere, this emoji represents the first boss fight of every single merchant account.

9. ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ The Legacy Terminal

You walk up to the counter and spot a dust-covered, clunky credit card terminal from years ago (a VX520? ) that still runs on a dial-up phone line. This is the ultimate “opportunity” emoji. It smells like high rates, slow checkout times, and a merchant who is desperately ready for an upgrade to a sleek smart Dejavoo P1.

8. ๐Ÿ“„ The Statement

The holy grail of the discovery phase. When a prospect finally says, “Fine, you can look at my current processor’s statement,” this is how you feel. You’re ready to break out the highlighter, uncover those hidden junk fees, and prove exactly how much money youโ€™re about to save them.

7. โณ The Underwriting Wait

Youโ€™ve got the signature, the terminal is picked out, and the paperwork is submitted. Now… we wait. This emoji lives in the agonizing limbo while risk and underwriting analyze the merchant’s business. Will it auto-approve, or are we going to need three more months of bank statements? Keep your fingers crossed.

6. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ The “I’m Under Contract” Excuse

The universal face of hearing a merchant say, “I’d love to switch, but I’m locked into a 4-year contract with a massive ETF (Early Termination Fee).” Itโ€™s a temporary setback, but as a pro, you already know your company’s contract buyout program is about to save the day.

5. ๐Ÿ›œ The “Wi-Fi Is Down” Panic

It’s install day. You’re setting up a brand-new, beautiful P1 for a busy restaurant right before their lunch rush… and the restaurant’s internet goes completely down. This emoji captures the cold sweat of troubleshooting a router while a line of hungry customers starts forming at the door. (Thank goodness for cellular fallback!)

4. ๐Ÿฅท The Unsolicited Competitor

You did the cold calls, built the relationship, and gave a killer presentation. Then, right before they sign, another ISO/agent swoops in out of nowhere trying to undercut you by a fraction of a basis point. This emoji is a reminder to always lock down your relationships and sell on value, not just price.

3. ๐ŸŽฃ The “Whale” Account

The multi-location franchise. The high-volume B2B distributor. The massive e-commerce brand processing millions a month. When you finally get a meeting with a “Whale,” your entire month (and your residual check) flashes before your eyes. Land this one, and you’re funding your next vacation.

2. โœ๏ธ The Signed Merchant Agreement

There is no finer sight in the world than a merchant putting pen to paper (or finger to tablet) on an MPA. The deal is officially done. The residuals are locked in. The hard work paid off.

1. ๐Ÿ’ฐ The Residuals

The absolute undisputed king of being in our industry. Itโ€™s the morning the monthly residual report hits your account. While youโ€™re sleeping, eating, or golfing, those transactions from businesses you signed years ago are still processingโ€”and youโ€™re still getting paid. This emoji is exactly why we grind!

Happy World Emoji Day!
