Time is Money

Every sales rep gets the same 24 hours, but the top 1% aren’t working more hoursโ€”theyโ€™re just wasting fewer of them. If you feel like youโ€™re “grinding” but your residuals aren’t growing, itโ€™s time to take an honest inventory of your day.

The truth? We often hide from the hard work of prospecting by staying “busy” with low-value tasks. We complain about a lack of leads while spending hours scrolling LinkedIn or perfecting a proposal that hasn’t even been pitched yet.

Stop Being Busy, Start Being Productive

In merchant services, being busy is easy; being productive is a choice. Stress usually comes from a lack of structure, not a lack of time. To reclaim your day, you have to measure it.

  • Audit Your Day: Break your schedule into 30-minute increments. How much of your “prime time” (8 AM โ€“ 4 PM) is actually spent on the phone or walking into businesses?
  • Identify the Time Sinks: Are you spending two hours on a single customer service ticket that could be delegated to support? Are you over-analyzing statements instead of closing?
  • Identify Your “Power Hours”: When is your energy highest? Don’t use your peak hours for administrative paperwork. Use them for the “asks.”

The Merchant Sales Action Plan

To own your time and scale your portfolio, you must prioritize ruthlessly:

  1. Kill the Multitasking: You canโ€™t cold call effectively while answering emails. Focus on one task at a time to maximize your conversion rate.
  2. Eat the Frog: Schedule your hardest “no-contact” prospects for your peak energy window.
  3. Learn to Say No: If a task doesnโ€™t lead to a signed contract or a happy, processing merchant, itโ€™s a distraction.
  4. Protect Your Work/Life Balance: High-performance sales requires a recharged battery. If you manage your time during the day, you won’t have to carry the stress home.

The Bottom Line

In this industry, your time is your only limited resource. You can always find another lead, but you canโ€™t find another Tuesday. Invest your seconds into activities that build your residuals, or you’ll spend your future regretting the “garbage time” you spent today.

Decide today to own your time. Your pipeline will thank you.

Happy selling,
