WWYD Wednesday: The “Friend Zoned” BBQ Joint

Welcome back to another edition of What Would You Do Wednesdays, the weekly pit stop where we dissect real-world merchant services scenarios and figure out how to turn cold shoulders (or in this case, warm brisket) into signed contracts.

Today, we’re looking at a classic sales trap: The Friend Zone.

The Fortune is in the Follow-Up: Why Your Merchant Services Career Depends on the “Second Ask”

I’ll never forget my first “big fish.” It was a local auto shop owner named . I gave him a killer pitch, showed him he was overpaying by 40 basis points, and left him with a shiny new terminal proposal. He looked me in the eye, shook my hand, and said, “This looks great, let me just talk to my partner.”

Monday Morning Motivation: The Power of Intentionality

Stop waiting for the “perfect” lead and start building your empire.

I was talking to a friend of mine recently about a salesperson he knows who is trying to break into the merchant services business. This guy has spent a small fortune on “masterclasses,” paid for every training module under the sun, and has all the materials ready to go. The problem? He has yet to pull a single door handle or pick up the phone.

I’ve learned that not all “open” signs are worth stopping for. I’ve spent the last few years refocusing my hit list, focusing on the spots where the average tickets are higher and the owners don’t mind cash discounting.

With Dual Pricing now being the standard, these are the niches where I’m seeing the biggest wins. When you can look a business owner in the eye and show them how to wiped out 100% of their processing costs on a $2,000 repair bill, the deal practically closes itself.

The School of Hard Knox From Hypercom T7 to the Modern Grind

In today’s day age of cash discount closing a deal seems like a “Easy Win.” But let’s be real—you don’t build a career on the layups. You build it on the deals that almost broke you.

I remember when I first started. The landscape looked a lot different than it does today. Back then, every ISO was a 50/50 split and a $200–$300 bonus. If you were lucky, you had a “true-up,” but those were a double-edged sword. If you didn’t price the deal exactly right or hit the volume tiers, those true-ups would come back to haunt your commissions.

WWYD Wednesday: The “I Need It Now” Meltdown

We’ve all got that one merchant on our caller ID. You know the one—the name pops up, and your stomach does a little somersault because you know, regardless of the time or day, it’s going to be a “crisis.”

This week, we’re diving into a scenario of high stakes, high entitlement, and the dreaded “I’m canceling” threat.

A Table Full of Success (And the One Man Who Made It Possible)

As the residuals stack up and the wins become more frequent, it’s easy to let pride take the wheel. We’ve all met that agent who hits a certain level of success and suddenly claims to be a “self-made” individual.
